Pilates

Would you like to feel stronger and more flexible? How about learning to address some of the pain you may be in, such as lower back pain or hip pain? Would you like to feel the benefit of more mobility in your joints? Are you struggling with balance issues?

Joseph Pilates put together his collection of exercises initially to help himself, as he had been a sickly and weak child, but found that his exercises greatly helped others, particularly soldiers recovering from injuries in the First World War. He called his method of exercise Controlology, but we know it as Pilates.

Pilates focuses on building strength from the ‘core’ – getting stronger abdominals and back, which helps in turn to build strength and flexibility in the arms and legs, the joints and support the rest of the body. The exercises are performed in a slow controlled manner – this isn’t a pump class! However, nor is it an hour of ab crunches. This is a whole-body system of exercises and you will feel that you have worked hard, if not straight after the class, certainly the next day. And it’s a slow-burn – after a few classes you will start to notice the difference in your overall strength and flexibility.
